Xiqu Centre Seminar Series

The West Kowloon Cultural District Authority will conduct a Xiqu Centre Seminar Series to lay the ground for the future Xiqu Centre. The series will provide a platform for pre-eminent artists and academics to engage in dialogues and share their practice and knowledge with the audience.

The first seminar will start with the theme “Sharing Across Genres in Chinese Traditional Theatre” on 22 June. Pei Yanling, a famous performing artist of Peking, Kunqu and Clapper opera and an expert on how cross-genre hybridisation works, and Yuen Siu-fai, a famous Cantonese opera artist who is equally well-known for the rejuvenation and continuation of Cantonese opera, will engage in an illuminating discussion on how the various genres in Chinese traditional theatre (or xiqu’) can interact. The Seminar will be conducted in Mandarin and Cantonese with English simultaneous interpretation.
