West Kowloon’s Debut Bamboo Theatre Ushers in Chinese New Year with Chimes and Gongs
The West Kowloon Cultural District Authority will raise the curtain of our debut showcase with a Cantonese opera programme cum exhibition at a purpose-built bamboo theatre at the future site of the Xiqu Centre on Canton Road (next to Tsim Sha Tsui Fire Station) during the Chinese New Year 2012, offering an elegant fusion of traditional Cantonese opera and contemporary visual art installations.
All about Bamboo Theatre
Before the West Kowloon Cultural District’s first cultural program, we are privileged to have a roundtable among top Cantonese Opera artist Yuen Siu-fai and scholar Dr Dorothy Ng Fung-ping along with our Executive Director of Performing Arts Louis Yu Kwok-lit, talking about the history of Bamboo Theatre and the future of Cantonese Opera.
Talking Art : Andrew Lam Siu-lo
Many know West Kowloon Cultural District Authority board member Mr. Andrew Lam is a distinguished town planner but perhaps few know he is a big fan of arts and culture. He loves Chinese literature, ink art, traditional teapots and crude stones. His music taste - from Mozart to Jan Lamb in his iPad - surprised even our Performing Arts Executive Director Louis Yu.
